What is the Alliance for Education and how is Lewis involved?
In San Bernardino County the k-12 education system faces challenges that impact the community and quality of life. The San Bernardino County Alliance for Education is active in addressing those issues and aims to achieve a more qualified workforce and vibrant economy through strengthening education within the community.
Lewis Group of Companies is one of the co-founders and Randall Lewis is the chair of the Executive Board.
“As a company and as a family there has always been a focus on giving back to the communities where we do business.” –Randall Lewis, Executive Vice President for Lewis Group of Companies
The Alliance implements programs revolving around Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) to prepare students for STEM related careers, which are currently in high demand.
How do we know this process works? How do we know if students are entering the workforce properly equipped?
These questions brought about the Alliance for Education Evaluation Internship. This Internship, funded by the Lewis Group of Companies, is a partnership between Claremont Graduate University (CGU) and the San Bernardino County Alliance for Education to evaluate the various Alliance programs that target college readiness, STEM education, and workforce development.
“This internship program provides research and evaluation needed to determine the impact of the Alliance’s programs. Literacy, high school completion, and preparing students for tomorrow’s STEM careers are vital to the region’s growth and stability.” -Scott Thomas, Dean of CGU’s School of Educational Studies
Interns will have access to student-level data to conduct evaluations and program effectiveness including student performance, attendance, employment, and student dropout and graduation rates.
